2.   Scope
 

The officer shall be a member of the staff of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department to which he is assigned by the IIUM and the officer shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties and such other obligations as are normally required of an academic staff member of the IIUM.

 

The officer should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to his colleagues and students as part and parcel of his duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM.

 

The officer shall attend meetings of IIUM Authorities, Boards and Committees to which he, being an academic staff member, may be appointed as a member by virtue of the IIUM Constitution or any Statutes or Acts, or of any administrative actions of the Rector, Dean or Head of the Kulliyyah/Centre/ Department.

 

The officer is also expected to participate in the general life of the IIUM community.

 

The officer is also expected to advise and guide students in relation to their character, behaviour and moral conduct. In short, he is not only a teacher (Mu'allim), a scholar ('Alim) but also a moral educator (Murabbi).

 

3.  Key Responsibilities
 

a.       Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops, and seminars.

b.      Developing curricula and course material that can be used across multiple platforms.

c.       Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base.

d.      Setting and grading assignments, tests, and exams.

e.       Conducting research, and writing papers, proposals, journal articles, and books.

f.        Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events in and outside of the institution.

g.      Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution.

h.      Providing support to students and other colleagues.

i.        Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field.

j.        Supervising students’ research and internship activities

4.  Minimum Qualifications

a)       Master’s degree in English Language Studies, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or Communication Studies
     (or a closely related field).

b)       Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in English Linguistics/English for Communication are preferred.

c)       Able to teach language-focused courses relevant to English and Communication, with priority areas
     including (but not limited to):

• Phonetics and Phonology
• Morphology and Syntax
• Pragmatics
• Persuasion and Rhetoric
• Interpersonal and Intercultural communication
• Media Studies
• Corporate Communication
• International communication
• Public Relations
• International relation

 

5.  Minimum Competencies

 a.       Strong research aptitude, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

b.      Committed, responsible, and passionate about teaching and research.

c.       Possess good interpersonal and communication skills.

d.      Exposure to, or experience in, the integration of Islamic values and knowledge is an added advantage.

6.      Other Requirements 

a.       Must be a Malaysian citizen.

b.      Willingness to be based at IIUM, Pagoh Education Hub.

 

7.      Language Qualifications

  All candidates must have obtained:

   a.       Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia
        (SPM) level OR equivalent qualification recognised by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).

   b.      IELTS Band 7 / MUET Band 6.
       Candidate without any of these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language
       Proficiency Test.
