2.    Scope

 

The officer shall be a member of staff of the Centre for Foundation Studies, CFS IIUM to which he/she is assigned by the IIUM and shall perform teaching, examining, and such other obligations as are normally required of an academic staff member of the CFS IIUM.

The officer should also undertake
moral and religious obligations in relation to his/her colleagues and students as part and parcel of his/her duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM.

The officer shall attend meetings to which he/she, being an academic staff member, may be appointed as a member by virtue of the IIUM Constitution or any Statutes or Acts, or of any administrative actions of the Rector, Dean or Head of the Kulliyyah/Centre/ Department.

The officer is also expected to involve in minimal research activities, participate in programmes and general life of the IIUM community.

The officer is also expected to advise and guide students in relation to their character, behaviour and moral conduct. In short, he/she is not only a teacher (Mu'allim), a scholar ('Alim) but also a moral educator (Murabbi).


 3.    Key Responsibilities

a.    Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops, and seminars.

b.    Preparing, conducting and supervising students during laboratory sessions.

c.    Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand
  knowledge base.

d.    Setting and grading assignments, tests, and exams.

e.    Preparing modules, workbooks and laboratory manuals.

f.     Attending and participating in meetings, and other relevant events in and outside of the institution.

g.    Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution.

h.    Providing support to students and other colleagues.

i.     Participating in assessment moderation, continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities and
 curriculum review and course materials at departmental and Kulliyyah level.

 


4.   Minimum Qualification
 

 ·         A bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related discipline from a recognized institution.
 
·         Prior teaching and/ or laboratory experience at pre-university, foundation or diploma is
           advantageous.
 
·         Fresh graduates with strong academic results and interest in teaching may also be considered. 


 

 5.  Minimum Competencies

·         Ability to teach foundation- level Chemistry concepts clearly and effectively.

·         Basic competence in conducting and supervising laboratory sessions.

·         Basic information technology (IT) skills in learning management systems (LMS).

·         Good interpersonal, presentation and written and verbal communication skills.

·         Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

·         Professional attitude, discipline, and commitment to student development. 

  

6.    Language Qualifications

All candidates must have obtained:

a.  
Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran
     Malaysia (SPM) level OR equivalent qualification recognised by the Government (for Malaysian
     
citizens).

 

b.  IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4.
Candidates without any of these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
