2.   Scope
 

As a Law Lecturer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the minds of the next generation of legal professionals. Your responsibilities will span across teaching, curriculum development, research, and community engagement, aiming to deliver an outstanding educational experience. This role is perfect for individuals passionate about both technology and education, eager to contribute to the academic and professional development of our students.

The candidates shall be a staff member of either the Civil Law Department, Islamic Law Department or Legal Practice Department of the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws and the candidates shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties and such other obligations as are normally required of an academic staff member of the IIUM.

The candidates should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to his colleagues and students as part and parcel of his duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM.

As a lecturer and member of the academic staff, the candidate is required to attend any meetings related to administrative positions they may hold. This attendance is mandated by appointments made under the IIUM or through administrative directives issued by the Rector, Dean, or Head of the Kulliyyah/ Centre/ Department/ Institute/ Office/ Mahallah.

  Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development: Design and update comprehensive law courses that reflect the latest industry trends and academic standards.
  • Teaching Excellence: Deliver engaging lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions across a variety of law subjects, incorporating cutting-edge technologies and software.
  • Student Assessment: Create and evaluate examinations, assignments, and projects to gauge student knowledge and skills, providing constructive feedback.
  • Research Contribution: Conduct and publish impactful research in the field of laws, and supervise student research projects and theses.
  • Professional Development: Remain current with technological advancements and pedagogical strategies through continued education and active  participation in academic communities.
  • Community and Industry Engagement: Collaborate with industry experts to ensure curriculum relevance and foster opportunities for student placements.
  • Mentorship: Offer academic advice and personal mentorship to students, guiding them towards academic and professional success.

 

4.  Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must hold a Doctorate (PhD), Master’s and Bachelor’s Degree in Laws from a recognised university.
  • A Minimum CGPA of 3.0 in Bachelor’s Degree
  • Malaysian applicants are welcome to apply, fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment.

 

5.  Minimum Competencies


Particularly in a higher education context, typically encompass a blend of academic qualifications, teaching abilities, research skills, and personal attributes that enable effective education delivery, student engagement, and contributions to the academic community. Prior experience in teaching and research in the higher education sector is an added advantage.  



 6. Other Requirements 


Candidates must possess a strong foundation and knowledge in laws. In addition to this essential expertise, proficiency or specialization in any of the following areas is highly desirable:


Civil Law Department

-     Land Law

-    Company Law

-    Criminal Law

-    Equity & Trust

-    Banking Law

-    Revenue Law

-    Land Use & Planning.

Islamic Law Department

-    Law of Probate

-    Law of Succession

-    Family Law

-    Islamic Family Law

-    Islamic Legal System

-    Islamic Criminal Law 

Legal Practice Department

-    A legal practitioner with experience in Criminal Litigation will be able to teach Criminal Procedure/Criminal Trial Advocacy/Evidence.

 

-    Those who have extensive experience in Civil Litigation will be able to teach Civil Procedure/Civil Litigation/Bankruptcy Winding up and Foreclosure.

 

-    An experienced Conveyancing lawyer can teach Conveyancing Practice and Law Practice Management and Correspondence.

 

 

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

 A strong track record of published research and participation in the academic community is highly desirable.

 

7.  Language Qualifications

All candidates must have obtained:-
 

a. Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level OR equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).

 

b.  IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4.  Candidate without any of these qualification will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.  

 

c.  Candidate who possess good command of written and spoken Arabic Language is an advantage.
