Basic salary                  : Between RM3,070.00 to RM 11095.00 (depends on experience)

2.   Scope 
 

The officer shall be a member of the staff of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department to which they are assigned by IIUM. The officer shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties and other obligations as are normally required of an academic staff member of IIUM.

 

The officer should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to colleagues and students as part of their duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM.

 

The officer shall attend meetings of IIUM Authorities, Boards, and Committees to which they may be appointed by virtue of the IIUM Constitution, Statutes, Acts, or administrative actions of the Rector, Dean, or Head of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department.

 

The officer is also expected to participate in the general life of the IIUM community and advise and guide students in relation to their character, behaviour, and moral conduct. In short, they are not only a teacher (Mu'allim) and a scholar ('Alim) but also a moral educator (Murabbi).
 

1.   Key Responsibilities


a.   Preparing and delivering lectures and tutorials. Teaching subjects related to Optometry & Vision Sciences to

 students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

b.    Teaching and supervising Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.

c.    Setting and grading assignments, tests, and exams.

d.    Supervising students during clinical attachments and performing clinical duties.

e.    Conducting research and writing papers, proposals, journal articles, and books.

f.     Developing curricula and course material in line with IIUM’s ‘Sejahtera Academic Framework’ (SAF) and the
 Ministry of Education’s ‘Experiential learning and Competency-Based Education Landscape’ (EXCEL).

g.   Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand the knowledge base.

h.    Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events in and outside of the institution.

i.     Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution.

j.     Working harmoniously with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds Providing support to students and
  other colleagues.

k.    Performing any administrative duties assigned by the Head of the Department or the Dean.


 
4.   Minimum Qualifications 

 
 ·        Master’s degree in optometry or vision sciences or related field, AND degree in Bachelor of Optometry
  from any international or local institution of higher learning recognised by the Government or equivalent.
 ·        Published work and a background in research would be advantageous.

5.   Minimum Competencies 

    •   Ability to inspire students with your passion.
    •  Flexibility, resilience, and willingness to work long hours.
    • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.
    • High degree of integrity.
    • A good team player.
    • Membership in any relevant governmental body/ Non-Governmental Organization would be advantageous.

7.   Language Qualifications

 All candidates must have obtained:

a.   Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia 
      
(SPM) level OR equivalent qualification recognised by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).

b.  IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4.
     Candidate without any of these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language
     Proficiency Test.
