2.   Scope

The officer shall be a member of the staff of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department to which he is assigned by the IIUM and the officer shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties and such other obligations as are normally required of an academic staff member of the IIUM.

The officer should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to his colleagues and students as part and parcel of his duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM.

The officer shall attend meetings of IIUM Authorities, Boards and Committees to which he, being an academic staff member, may be appointed as a member by virtue of the IIUM Constitution or any Statutes or Acts, or of any administrative actions of the Rector, Dean or Head of the Kulliyyah/Centre/ Department.

The officer is also expected to participate in the general life of the IIUM community.

The officer is also expected to advise and guide students in relation to their character, behaviour and moral conduct. In short, he is not only a teacher (Mu'allim), a scholar ('Alim) but also a moral educator (Murabbi).

3.  Key Responsibilities

a.    Preparing, delivering and conduction lectures, tutorials, workshops, and seminars in the area of Counseling

b.    Supervising practical experience (Counseling lab, practical and internship)

c.  Supervising research for undergraduate and post-graduate students 

d.    Developing curricula and course material that can be used across a number of platforms.

e.    Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand the knowledge base.

f.     Setting and grading assignments, tests, and exams.

g.    Conducting research, and writing papers, proposals, journal articles, and books.

h.    Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events in and outside of the institution.

i.      Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution.  

J.  Providing support to students and other colleagues

k.  Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field

l.   Preferable with at least three (3) years of working experience in the Counseling field.

m. Candidate with counseling experience, teaching practice field will be an added advantage 

4.  Minimum Qualifications

• Experienced counsellor with a Bachelor of Education degree; OR a bachelor's degree in any relevant field with a Diploma in Education
• Master of Education and Ph.D (Counseling)
• The candidates mus be an active registered member of Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia (LKM)
• Preferably candidates with teaching and Counseling experience who are actively involved in community work

5.  Minimum Competencies

• Ability to inspire students with your passion.
  
• Flexibility, resilience, and willingness to work long hours.
• Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.

6.  Other Requirements (if any)

• Prefer candidates aged 30 to 45 years old

7.  Language Qualifications

All candidates must have obtained:-
 

a.  Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level OR equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).
 
b.  IELTS Band 7 / MUET Band 4.  Candidate without any of these qualification will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
